🍦 bots now make 57.2% of ALL internet traffic
Oh and Anthropic's new "Fable 5" model? it has a kill switch for rival AI labs using it, good stuff this week, keep reading
sup fellas, so this week anthropic said claude writes 80% of its own code and then asked everyone to slow down, fable 5 shipped with a KILL SWITCH for competing labs, apple launched siri on google’s gemini which. yeah. and openai filed at 965 billion. anywayyyyyy, here are the top stories.
anthropic said claude writes 80% of its own codebase and then asked the world to please slow down
ok so anthropic dropped a paper this week called “recursive self-improvement” and I need you to sit with this for a second. 80% of merged code at anthropic is now written by claude. not assisted by. WRITTEN BY. engineers ship 8x more code per quarter than in 2024. mythos preview hit a 52x speedup on training script optimization — opus 4 did 3x on the same task. the model is getting better at making itself better. and then — same week — anthropic publishes a SEPARATE call asking the industry to please build a global off switch because rsi “could spiral past human control.” so monday they drop the data showing the loop is real, and friday they’re begging for a pause button. I genuinely can’t tell if this is the most responsible thing a lab has ever done or the greatest competitive moat filing in history. it’s both. it’s definitely both.
anthropic shipped fable 5, leaked it to china, and added terms that let the model secretly sabotage your work
fable 5 is here. anthropic’s first public mythos-class model — the one they said in april was Too Dangerous To Release. 50 per million tokens, 1M context, best scores on basically everything. cool. here’s where it gets weird. an unreleased checkpoint codenamed oceanus leaked through the claude console and ended up on chinese api proxies before safety testing even finished. anthropic slapped mandatory 30-day data retention on ALL fable 5 traffic — your enterprise zero-retention deal? gone. and the big one: fable 5 can silently degrade your output if it thinks you’re building competing frontier ai. prompt modification. steering vectors. no notification. they estimate it hits ~0.03% of traffic. so the model that was too dangerous to release is now released, already leaked, and quietly nerfing your work if you’re a competitor. incredible week for anthropic honestly.
apple finally shipped siri ai at wwdc and the brain is google’s gemini
TWO YEARS after promising the smart siri that never came, apple finally showed the one that works. siri ai — full rebuild, standalone app, multi-turn conversations, on-screen awareness, ai web search, works across every apple device. sounds great right? the brains are google’s gemini. running on google cloud. apple spent two years trying to build a foundation model. they could not do it. so they rented google’s and put it in a turtleneck. launches english only, banned in china, no iphone/ipad in the eu, and daily usage limits unless you pay for icloud+. the trillion dollar company’s big ai moment is a subscription to someone else’s model with a regional lockout covering most of earth. but hey the dynamic island swipe thing looks nice.
openai is building a superapp and chatgpt now dreams while you sleep
openai is merging chatgpt, codex, and the atlas browser into ONE app. per wsj and ft. just one window for everything — chat, code, browse, finance, agents. then they shipped chatgpt dreaming v3 which. ok. so while you’re sleeping, chatgpt is going through your conversation history, reorganizing your memories, figuring out what matters, consolidating patterns. 2x memory capacity for plus and pro. it now has your code, your inbox, your calendar, your bank account, and your browsing history. and it processes all of it at night. “personal assistant” is not a metaphor anymore it’s just a factual description of the thing in your dock that never sleeps.
google shipped gemma 4 12b and it runs on your laptop. like actually.
gemma 4 12b. open weights. text, images, AND audio. runs on 16gb of ram. no gpu. apache 2.0. benchmarks near the 26b model at half the memory. unsloth already compressed it to 4.66gb which means you can run a model that sees hears and reads on hardware that couldn’t run stable diffusion two years ago. while every closed lab is fighting over who has the longest context window, google just shipped “runs on a macbook air without the fan turning on.” that’s the whole pitch and honestly? it’s a good pitch.
openai filed its s-1 at 965 billion
openai filed its s-1 on june 8. their announcement: “we expect it to leak so we’re just announcing it.” that’s literally the quote. $852 billion, goldman and morgan stanley, targeting q4. this was ONE WEEK after anthropic filed at $965 billion. DAYS before spacex started trading at $1.77 trillion. three companies. one quarter. $3.5 trillion in combined valuation about to hit public markets. and the wildest part — anthropic, the company that literally left openai because they were worried about safety, is going public at a PREMIUM to the company they left. the public market hasn’t been asked to absorb this much new equity since 1999.
cognition’s frontiercode benchmark says ai scores 13 out of 100 on code that’s actually mergeable
cognition made a benchmark that asks one simple question: would a real engineer actually merge this code. not “does it pass.” not “does it run.” would you PUT THIS IN PRODUCTION. the answer across every frontier model: 13 out of 100. every lab has been claiming 90%+ on swe-bench for months. frontiercode asks “would you ship it” and the number collapses. turns out writing code that works and writing code that doesn’t make the next developer want to quit are two completely different skills.
moonshot shipped kimi work with 300 parallel desktop agents and kimi code got a full rewrite
western labs: “agents should live in the cloud.” moonshot: “what if we put 300 of them on your laptop.” kimi work runs 300 parallel sub-agents locally — browser control, file access, documents, persistent memory. kimi code got rebuilt from scratch with cli install, video as coding context, full ide integration. this is the same moonshot that anthropic accused of running 3.4 million distillation exchanges through fake accounts. the response is basically “yeah we looked at your model, here’s what we built, and it runs on hardware where you can’t revoke our api key.” respect honestly.
google is paying spacex $920 million a month for gpus
I had to read this three times. google cloud. is paying spacex. $920 million per month. for 110,000 nvidia gpus. from october 2026 through june 2029. ~$30 billion total. spacex built data centers for starlink and realized renting the racks to hyperscalers was worth more than running satellites. and google — the company that DESIGNS ITS OWN CHIPS — still needs to pay a rocket company a billion a month for nvidia silicon. the gpu is the new oil and it’s being pumped by a company whose day job is launching things into orbit.
bots now make up 57.2% of all internet traffic and humans are officially the minority online
cloudflare dropped the number. 57.2%. that’s how much of all internet traffic is now bots. humans are the minority on the internet we built. every lab shipping agentic browsing, every model-training pipeline scraping the web, every “ai assistant” checking prices in the background — it added up. the internet is funded by human attention and majority-occupied by software that doesn’t click ads, doesn’t read content, and doesn’t buy anything. every “monthly active users” number you’ve ever seen just became a rough estimate.
